Where to park in Brighton

Brighton is an excellent place to base yourself if you want to explore the south coast of England. To the west is Chichester with its magnificent cathedral. To the east is Hastings, where two great armies fought for the throne of England in 1066. Inland are the splendid South Downs with glorious chalk hills offering splendid country walks with coastal views.

A car is a convenient way to get from place to place. Here are some top places to park in Brighton.

Many of the streets in Brighton have parking for residents only. You can park there at night – usually from 10pm to 8am or 9am – but this means you’ll need to be an early riser to move your car before the streets return to permit parking only.

Free parking in Brighton

You’ll find some streets with free parking but you then face a bit of a walk to the main attractions. That’s fine if you´re fairly fit and don´t mind a 30-minute walk into central Brighton or the seafront.  And you could waste time driving around looking for a parking space – especially in the busy summer period. That means spending time in your car instead of enjoying the best that Brighton has to offer.

There´s a park and ride at Withdean Sports Complex where parking is free and you just pay for a bus into Brighton. However, you can´t park overnight.

If you´re visiting Brighton Marina there is free parking for around 1,500 cars but it is only for visitors to the marina and for up to four hours.

For peace of mind, there are plenty of paid-for car parks such as The Lanes, Regency Square – the nearest car park for the i360, Trafalgar Street and London Road in central Brighton, and Black Rock car park by the seafront, although this one is currently closed. These aren’t cheap but worth paying for the convenience of having a car in Brighton.

Also, you can prepay to guarantee a place in the two NCP car parks. NCP Russell Road car park is handy for Brighton Pier and the beach. The Brighton Theatre car park is within easy walking distance of the Theatre Royal, Brighton Dome, and the Royal Pavilion.

If you download the NCP ParkPass app you get 10% off payments for your first month and get special parking rates. Another bonus is you can extend your parking time via the app if you are enjoying the Brighton sights so much you forget the time.

You can also visit Parkopedia to find the closest parking to the place you want to visit or your accommodation. It will give you the cost and the chance to pay for parking online.

Speaking of accommodation, you´ll find a fab selection of holiday lets and Airbnb accommodations throughout Brighton and East Sussex at My Getaways. Enjoy your stay with us while visiting this wonderful part of England.
